On Friday June 21, 2019 the WTS South Florida Chapter honored distinguished scholarship recipients and heard from several extremely talented, bright, young women who aspire to transform the transportation industry.
The keynote speaker of the luncheon included Gretchen Cassini, Broward County's Assistant County Administrator. Gretchen was also nominated as the WTS South Florida 2018/2019 Woman of the year.
Gretchen acted as the primary point of contact and lead for the Penny for Transportation campaign that led to the successful passage of the country's largest transportation surtax initiative, for Broward County, estimated at nearly $16B over 30 years. The plan is designed to reduce traffic congestion, improve roads and bridges, enhance traffic light timing, develop safe sidewalks and bike paths and fund a variety of countywide transportation projects.
